You can still crochet or knit when the case is closed - just feed your yarn through the metal opening on either side of the case! Improved Design (5 out of 5)
I love the original JB’s train case I was gifted a couple of years back, but this version really levels up the usability. First the tray: wonderfully perfect for notions and spare needles, cables, etc. Second: the latch feels more secure than the former snap. Third: the handles are SUCH an improvement. They allow for easier carrying and also mean you can stack something on top of the case when needed without it sliding off, for someone that uses a tablet to track my patterns this is phenomenal. Lastly, the material feels much more durable. I love the vegan leather look and feel, but it doesn’t always hold up, canvas is a much more practical and reliable choice. Over all super happy with the investment in it.
I really just loved the look of this - takes me back to the 60’s-even though my projects may not always fit bulky sweaters! I am doing a colorwork chart right now with 2 yarns and using it which is great! No chance of winding round each other! Haven’t had to carry it around yet, but so far it’s pretty functional for smaller projects.
I love the look of this case and Jimmy Beans has tried to make it right by sending me a replacement. The email said they were going to reenforce the latch in shipping. I got the new case today, there was no effort to protect the latch. I had to laugh and take pictures of the contents after taking the case out of the box. I looked at the latch to see if it was improved and found that only part of the latch was intact. I looked in the shipping box and half the latch was in the bottom with its two screws. At this point, I just want my money back.

Today the latch on my new case fell off. I have been using this for a project I began last week. This morning the latch fell off. The top latch has 2 small screws, one fell out, no big deal except I realized that it isn’t a problem which will be easily solved because the small screws really have no support and they continue to spin into the case. Luckily I was at home and the hardware wasn’t lost, but it has damaged my confidence in this case.
It does look good, though.
I have been using this for a month now and it is well made and very functional! My favorite part is the tray missing from previous model which holds all the extra stuff you need for your project. I also love the magnetic top which holds my metal cable needle, measuring tape, etc. The purple color is beautiful too. This case is a great improvement over the older model which currently serves as the home of my chocolate stash.
I've had a difficult time finding a project bag that holds yarn and notions, and has enough room for a bulky sweater in process. This train case is perfect. It's light-weight and compacteasy to take to a variety of gatherings or stash in the car or closet. I never have to worry about it flopping over or having the yarn roll out onto the floor. And the yarn feeder hole is large and unobstructed so it's easy to pull out the right amount of yarn as I knit. All around perfect!
It looks like I can't edit my previous review, so I'm adding a new one! I think the tray was just sitting oddly in the case before, because it's working great now for feeding the yarn with the tray in there! The lid still closes on its own and slams shut, but I think I can try to put a bit of pressure on it, hopefully bending it a bit, to help with that.
Anyway, my biggest concern is no longer an issue!
I pre-ordered this and was so excited to get it because I love the old Namaste train case and thought the improvements would be great!
Overall I really do like the new case, but there are a couple things that are an issue.
First, I didn't notice it from the pictures, but if the tray is in there, the yarn feeders cant be used. I had imagined that the tray would have had some sort of cut out as well so that you could use the tray and the yarn feeder, but no luck : This is sad because the tray was one of the things I was really excited about, but it is a bit of a pain to have to take it out and set it aside whenever I want to use it while knitting.
Second, the lid just won't stay open! I've tried on different surfaces, just in case the spot I put it wasn't level and that made it tip shut, but no it still closes instantly unless I hold it open. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to send it back or not over this.
