Renegade Knitwear Patterns

We might not play video games as much as we used to, but we can all agree that Tetris was a big one in everyone's day. The puzzle game has stood the test of time and is a perfect time passer for everyone (besides knitting of course). A simple two color mosaic pattern makes up the entire body of the shawl with two borders of seed stitch at the bottom. The mosaic is designed to look like several Tetris bricks getting ready to fall perfectly into place. This will use up three skeins of worsted weight yarn in your favorite colors and keep you warm all season. And just in case you were wondering about the name, can you guess what year Tetris was released? 1984!

This lovely shawl has sea creature-inspired texture, lace eyelets and a picot bind off. It is shown in Madelinetosh Pashmina: Whiskers and JBW exclusive March '16: Aries. Instructions are included for both fingering and sport weight yarns.

Antares, named for the brightest star in the Scorpio constellation, is a slouch worked from the bottom up. It incorporates a very simple lace pattern that is easy to memorize. It was originally designed for Jimmy Bean Wool, using one skein of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino DK in the exclusive colorway "Scorpio", dyed as a part of the Toshstrology Collection. The pattern is written for adults or younger children, so whether for yourself or for a loved one, this one skein project is perfect to keep you warm and still look gorgeous!

I remember in school learning about Mayan civilization. One of the most fascinating points I learned was how such a primitive culture was so capable at astronomy. The view of the sun, planets, and stars was how they based many aspects of their life. This brilliance is found, not only in the Mayans, but all over the world, spanning countless cultures. Today, many minds come together to study more of how people of the past used astronomy in their lives. The study is known as 'Archaeoastronomy'. This shawl encompasses many elements inspired from the subject. The body uses texture and star stitch to evoke the night sky, and a mosaic border represents the many cultures below it, always learning the mystery of the sky.

Twisted stitches create a textured pattern with the use of increases and decreases for a wavelike effect. The pattern can also be easily modifed to be shorter or longer! Shown in Madelinetosh Tosh Sport - '16 March - Aries.

BELMONT HARBOR is a garter stitch shawl full of fun eyelets, and uses a single skein of Madelinetosh Merino Light and five Unicorn Tails in a gradient fashion for a quick and easy shawlette. If you have a few scraps in your stash, see what unique color combos you can come up with, or knit it in just two colors. Either way, you will be left with a fun and stylish knit!

A light weight and lacy shawlette in fingering weight yarn

Starting with a few stitches, increases and decreases form the body while the color of the yarn determines when to make easy yarn overs, all while being surrounded by a nice picot edging and bind off.

In celebration for Mother's Day 2017, I collaborated with Jimmy Beans Wool to design a shawl using two of their Lorna's Laces Limited Edition colors for the months of April and May, with the theme being "April Showers bring May Flowers". GARDEN BED uses two skeins of sock yarn in an uncommon construction. One color is knit in a repeating lace motif with picots, and the second color is picked up along the edge of the panel, decreasing in easy garter stitch to create a triangle shape, more than suitable for the wonderful mother figure in your life.
