A natural extension of the popular Butterfly/Papillon Shawl. This works your short rows in the round in an ever expanding series of short rows for a magical, seamless poncho. The lines are worked in garter (ridges) and the shapes are worked in stockinette (flat) - so there is a lovely texture to the piece and it has more drape.

From Marin Melchior, designer of the uber popular Butterfly Shawl comes the Butterfly Cowl! This is a little sampler of the Butterfly/Papillon Shawl pattern, perfect for dipping your toes into the techniques used in the shawl. This cowl was designed to be a fun, wearable piece of art. It uses VERY little yarn, only about 100 yds of the main color and 80 yards of the contrast color!

Finished Measurements: 18" circumference at neck edge, 9" deep at center front

This pattern evolved from the Butterfly/Papillion Shawl. This is a doubled version of that design, worked in the round. It has garter lines and stocking knit shapes. It is a natural evolution from the original and shows off the magic of the random and specific short row shapes, growing as the piece widens systematically. It introduces some new concepts in working in the round, like making short rows back and forth over the beginning of the round. This allowed the shapes to grow as they did in the original triangular shawl, but contended with different parameters.

This stained glass looking scarf is reversible due to the magic of double knitting! This project is written for either fingering or sport weight. It looks just as glorious in two semi-solids (as seen on Madelinetosh) as it does a solid paired with a self-striping yarn (Monokrom + Uneek)!. The stitch pattern is both written and charted.

With colorwork resembling classic patterning from around the world, this cowl or headscarf is a delight to knit in super-soft Pashmina! The construction begins at the tip and is worked back and forth in rows for awhile, and is then joined in the round. The upper edge is finished off with a Latvian plait for a tidy finished edge.
