The folding fan was invented in Japan in the 6th century for practical reasons, but the fan blossomed into an art form that holds rich cultural significance in Japan’s history, and its historical influence spanned across Asia and Europe. This lightweight lacy scarf features a repeating motif depicting the Japanese folding fan, known as a sensu.
